Mashall Lloyd Burns was the pioneer of the wire and paper furniture in the 1900's. He began by designing Woven linen baskets and baby carriages using the traditional willow and cane method, and he soon found a cheaper construction using twisted paper and steel wire.

In 1919 Burns sold the patent of his technique to William Lusty,a merchant from London who proceeded to set up his own furniture company .His furniture was slow to catch on, but when the London and North Eastern Railway placed the Lloyd Loom furniture in its hotels the Lloyd Loom style took off.

Many of the pre-war Lloyd Loom chairs design are still manufactured today, and  it is William's grandson Geoffrey Lusty who oversees the many original designs production in the Far East.
