The Goal of the Chiropractic Adjustment

Your Torrance Chiropractor Los Angeles has spent the last 21 years perfecting the art of the chiropractic adjustment. The goal of the chiropractic adjustment is much more than just correcting spinal subluxations which are the major cause of neck and low back pain. Spinal subluxations cause many other conditions which affect our well being.

The first goal of chiropractic adjustments is to help return individual spinal bones to their proper motion and position. Abnormal motion or position of spinal bones can occur from physical trauma such as improper lifting, car accidents, repetitive motions, and poor sleeping habits. Emotional stress and chemical imbalances can lead to spinal subluxations as well.

A second goal of the chiropractic adjustment is to return normal nervous system function. Improper motion or position of spinal bones can rub, irritate, pinch or cause swelling of delicate nerves. This can impair the function of the tissues, organs, and systems controlled by these nerves. Much more than neck and low back pain can occur when the nervous system is malfunctioning.

Restoring normal muscle function is a third goal of the chiropractic adjustment. Muscles that support the spine can weaken and atrophy or become tight and go into spasm. Unfortunately, muscle tissue that has been affected by prolonged misalignment of the spine can result in decreased elasticity due to scar tissue and adhesions that occur in malfunctioning muscles.

Correction of abnormal soft tissue function is another goal of the chiropractic adjustment. Discs, ligaments, and other soft tissue are also affected. Adjusting the spine to correct spinal subluxations helps to restore normal blood supply so proper healing can occur even after the relief of your neck or back pain has occurred. Proper healing often requires continued care.

A final goal of the chiropractic adjustment is to slow or prevent the formation of bone spurs and spinal degeneration. Degenerative changes can be seen in other organs and tissues which have been deprived of normal nerve control.

The chiropractic adjustment helps to alleviate all five of these problems which is often referred to as the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. There are hundreds of ways of using carefully directed and controlled pressure to restore better position, motion and function to the spine joints.
